The Versatility of Pecan Meal

Good pecan meal is made from 100% ground pecans and can actually substitute for other flour that is needed in any recipe.
Healthier Substitute
It is a much healthier substitute and has begun to gain in popularity since it is a gluten-free alternative to wheat flour. It is an essential staple to have in your pantry because it can be used in several different ways. If you are making a sweeter recipe such as a pecan pie or even pancakes, it can be far healthier to take out the wheat flour and instead use pecan meal in its place.
Using it in a one to one ratio for the wheat flour. If you are making a recipe that requires a rising agent, then to replace the gluten you would have had with wheat flour, you can use cornstarch. Important to note, however, is the pecan meal will provide you with a much grainier and heartier finished product because it is not as fine as wheat or any other flour may be.
Use Instead of Bread Crumbs
You can also use ground pecan meal in place of breadcrumbs. Pecans don’t always have to mean sweet desserts. You can use the pecan meal as the breading for fish or poultry, or you can use it as a delicious topping to a casserole your family absolutely loves. The pecan meal as a breadcrumb substitute is also a clever idea because the pecan meal will stay crunchier for far longer than traditional bread crumbs would.
Delicious Pie Crusts
It also makes a very hearty and delicious pie crust. It is also just as easy to make as a traditional graham cracker crust would be. While it is great for a sweet pie such as pecan or sweet potato pie; the pecan flour also makes a good savory crust for potpies or savory quiches. These are just a few simple ways you can use pecan meal, and when substituting it for wheat flour, you will find many healthy and even taste advantages to using this extremely tasty and versatile ingredient for any sweet or savory dish you can come up with.
